Low Level Laser Therapy

Laser Therapy

LLLT, also called cold laser therapy or photobiomodulation therapy, is a type of light therapy designed to repair tissue, reduce pain and inflammation, and provide other benefits for patients in medical treatments. The wavelengths of light (size of light particles) are much smaller than infrared or LED lasers thus, they’re able to penetrate the skin without heat or pain – you’ll feel nothing but the benefits of the laser!

Specific Wavelength

Low level lasers use a specific wavelength of red light that stimulates the cell’s mitochondria to produce more ATP, the energy molecules of the cell. This activation of energy also turns on many other intracellular signaling pathways that increase tissue repair and regeneration. The lasers also directly interfere with the production of the inflammatory molecule prostaglandin E2. Thus, we use low level laser therapy to accelerate our patient’s healing time and consequently to shorten their total treatment time.

Infrared Laser Therapy

Low level lasers are considered class 2 lasers; this means the energy that is emitted by the lasers is low compared to other lasers that may be used to cut tissue or chelate blood vessels. You will not feel anything when the light photons hit your skin. This is an important distinction between low level laser therapy and infrared laser therapy. While both these lasers emit a red light, infrared laser therapy uses a wavelength of red light that produces heat that you will feel.

LASER

LLLT affects the function of connective tissue cells (fibroblasts), accelerate connective tissue repair and act as an anti-inflammatory agent.

Erchonia Laser Therapy

The use of low-level lasers is an effective means for reducing episodic chronic low back pain of musculoskeletal origin, progressively reducing low back pain over a 4-week treatment period and continuing to diminish it for at least an additional 8-weeks post-treatment. These improvements in pain were associated with reduced disability. Based off the results of this Randomized, Double-Blind, Sham-Controlled Study the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) the granted Erchonia® FX-635™ indication of use as an adjunct to provide relief of minor chronic low back pain of musculoskeletal origin, 510(k) # K180197. Test subjects will be followed out 12 months to determine the absolute limit of pain reduction.

Opioids and NSAIDs

In other words, not only were there long lasting results to low level laser therapy but the benefits of the treatment extended even beyond the active treatment period.

Treatment Benefits

Erchonia low level laser therapy reduces inflammation and pain. The specific wavelength of low level lasers help stimulate the mitochondria of cells resulting in increased production of ATP, the energy molecules of the cells. More energy allows the cells to replicate and repair the injured tissues in the affected area. When combined with chiropractic treatments, cells are able to heal faster and patients experience shorter overall treatment plans. There are no known side-effects of low level laser therapy treatments.
